Carson River Trails Horseback Riding

Southwest of Reno and north of Yerington near Fort Churchill, the Carson River Trails offer a 20 mile round trip horseback ride on flat dirt road through high desert between mountain and alkali flats. It is part of the Yerington Multiple Use Trail System. The end of the main dirt road connects with a network of roads. The Carson River drainage is along the first road to the northeast leading to Lahonton State Recreation Area.
The North Yerington trails are located 15 miles north of Yerington off Highway Alt 95. Parking is available at the Fort Churchill State Park or at the Carson River Ranch entrance.
Overall, Carson River Trails is the 6th most popular horse trail of all 24 horseback rides in Nevada. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Carson River Trails including Fort Churchill Road, Mason Pass Road, Pine Grove Trails and Weed Heights Area.
