Southwest of Reno and north of Yerington, the Fort Churchill Road is a 15 mile route open to horseback riding. It is part of the Yerington Multiple Use Trail System. This is a maintained dirt road and is easy to moderate, depending upon length travelled. This is a segment of the BLM Fort Churchill to Wellington Backcountry Byway.

The North Yerington trails are located 15 miles north of Yerington off Highway Alt 95. Parking is available at the Fort Churchill State Park or at the Carson River Ranch entrance.

Overall, Fort Churchill Road is the 11th most popular horse trail of all 24 horseback rides in Nevada. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Fort Churchill Road including Carson River Trails, Mason Pass Road, Pine Grove Trails and Weed Heights Area.
