Northeast of Asheville near Mount Mitchell, the Buncombe Horse Range Trail has 17 miles of trails open to horseback riding.

To reach the Buncombe Horse Range Trail trailhead from Asheville, head northwest on the Blue Ridge Parkway for roughly 26 miles to the junction with State Route 128 and Mount Mitchell. Keep straight on the Blue Ridge Parkway for 3.4 miles, turning left onto South Toe River Road. Follow road 1.7 miles to trailhead on left.
