Southwest of Franklin in the Nantahala National Forest, the Big Indian Loop is an 8 mile route open to horseback riding.

To reach the trailhead from Franklin, head west on US64. Turn left heading south on old US64 for 2 miles. Turn right on FS67. Follow past Standing Indian Campground. (The Hurricane Horse Camp is located on FS76 about 3 miles south of Standing Indian Campground).

Overall, Big Indian Loop is the 11th most popular horse trail of all 18 horseback rides in North Carolina.
