Flatwoods Trail / Morrell Trail Horseback Riding

The 9th most popular equestrian trail in Tennessee.

Near Bristol, the Flatwoods Horse Trail (#46) can be combined with the Morrell Trail (#47) provides access to 17 miles of horseback riding.

The Flatwoods Horse Trail consists of 8.3 miles of gated gravel roads (FS87A and FS87B) and 5.4 miles of trail. There are short rocky sections, but generally the grade is gentle and contours the base of Holston Mountain.

The Morrell Trail is a 2.2 mile one-way route that ascends Holston Mountain near Rye Patch Knob. This is a difficult stretch.

To reach the trailhead from Bristol, take SR421 south for 12 miles to Camp Tom Howard Road (aka Flatwoods Road / FS87). Turn right for 1 mile to the junction with FS87B.

Overall, Flatwoods Trail / Morrell Trail is the 9th most popular horse trail of all 21 horseback rides in Tennessee.
