South of Cosby in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Foothills Parkway is a 36 mile route open to horseback riding.
Foothills Parkway East is a six-mile road leading from Cosby, TN to Interstate 40. Its eastern terminus is TN exit 443. Built on Green Mountain, the road provides wonderful views of Cosby Valley to the south and the Newport area to the north.
The trailhead is located south of Cosby. It is 0.2 miles south of the intersection of SR 339 and US 321.
Overall, Foothills Parkway is the 16th most popular horse trail of all 21 horseback rides in Tennessee. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Foothills Parkway including Balsam Mountain Trail, Cooper Road Trail, Deep Creek Trail, Lakeshore Trail, Welch Ridge Trail and Wolf Ridge Trail.
