North of Bryson City in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Welch Ridge Trail is a 78 mile route open to horseback riding. Welch Ridge Trail is part of a 24 mile loop including Bear Creek Trail and Jones Creek Trail. There are 50 more miles of trails in the area.

To reach the trailhead from Bryson City, head north on SR 1364/New Fontana Rd (Lakeview Dr.) Travel 8.5 miles to the trailhead.

Overall, Welch Ridge Trail is the 18th most popular horse trail of all 21 horseback rides in Tennessee. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Welch Ridge Trail including Balsam Mountain Trail, Cooper Road Trail, Deep Creek Trail, Wolf Ridge Trail, Foothills Parkway and Lakeshore Trail.
