Bear Springs Mountain Trail System Horseback Riding

South of Walton in the western Catskills, the 7,200 acre Bear Spring Mountain Wildlife Management Area has 24 miles of marked horseback riding rolling through forest and meadows. These scenic horse trails pass lakes and waterfalls.
To reach the horseback riding trailhead from the north on US88, use Exit 20. Head south on SR10 to Walton. Turn east on SR206 for 5.2 miles. Turn on East Trout Road and head to the campground (where the trailhead is located).
Overall, Bear Springs Mountain Trail System is the 16th most popular horse trail of all 21 horseback rides in New York. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Bear Springs Mountain Trail System including Willowemoc Wild Forest and Vernooy Kill Falls Trail.
