South of Murphysboro, the Cedar Lake Trail System consists of three horseback riding routes totalling 14 miles. The bridle trail system rolls along the hills on the west side of Ceder Lake. The system is accessed by 4 trailheads.

To reach the horseback riding trailheads from Murphysboro, head south on SR127 for 10.5 miles. Turn left onto Boat Dock Road. Trailhead is 0.8 miles ahead on the right.

Overall, Cedar Lake Trail System is the 15th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in Illinois. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Cedar Lake Trail System including Garden Of The Gods Trails, One Horse Gap Trail System, River-To-River Trail - East, Beaver Horse Trail, Kinkaid Lake Trail and Johnson Creek Recreation Area.
