Northwest of Winona and southeast of Red Wing in the Richard J Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest, the 2,400 acre Trout Valley Management Unit has a 7 mile multi-use trail for horseback riding. The multi-use trail is open to hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding, dirt biking and horseback riding.

To reach the trailhead from Winona, head northwest on US61. Turn left heading south on CR29 for 2.3 miles. Turn left on access road to trailhead.

Overall, Trout Valley Trail System is the 2nd most popular horse trail of all 12 horseback rides in Minnesota. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Trout Valley Trail System including Zumbro Bottoms and Hay Creek Trails.
