West of the Yosemite gates in Mariposa County, the Merced River Trail is a 10 mile one-way horseback riding trek on an old railgrade along the scenic Merced river. The dirt and ballast trail runs from Briceburg (at SR140) to Bagby (at SR 49).

To get to the Trail: From Merced, travel East on Highway 140, about 40 miles to the town of Mariposa. From Mariposa, go 15 miles North on Hwy. 140 to the Briceburg Visitor Center.

Overall, Merced River Trail is the 71st most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California.
