Southeast of Tulsa and northwest of Big Cedar in the Ouachita National Forest, the 11.2 mile Horsetheif Springs Trail horseback riding loop ascends scenic Winding Stair Mountain into dense stands of oak.

To reach the Horsethief Springs Picnic Area trailhead from Heavener, start at the intersection of US59 and US270. Proceed south on US59 for 15.5 miles. Turn right on US 259 and travel 4.5 miles. Take a right on SR 1 and go about 6 miles to the Horsethief Springs Picnic Area.
