Southwest of Athens and north of Rutledge, the Hard Labor Creek State Park has 22 miles of horseback riding trails spread over 5,800 acres. There are two main trails: the 14 mile Lake Rutledge Equestrian Trail through hardwood & pine forests, and the 8 mile Lake Brantley Equestrian Trail thorugh hardwood & pine forests with some deep gorges.

To reach the horest trails Hard Labor Creek State Park from US20, use Exit #105. Continue into Rutledge. Continue 3 miles on Fairplay Road.

Note: There are stables available, but no horse rentals.

Overall, Lake Rutledge Equestrian Trail is the 8th most popular horse trail of all 13 horseback rides in Georgia.
