East of Roseburg in the Umpqua National Forest, the 77 mile North Umpqua Trail #1414 is mostly narrow horseback trail on a rolling ridge above the river. This route along the south side of the North Umpqua Trail meaders through old-growth forest. There are 12 primary trailheads supporting this trail, which is divided into segments ranging from 3.5 to 15.7 miles between trailheads. The horseback riding route is shared by hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians.

The western trailhead, Swiftwater Trailhead, is located 22 miles east of Roseburg (US5, Exit 124) via SR138 at Swiftwater Park. The popular eastern trailhead, Kelsay Valley, is located east of Roseburg via SR138 to CR60 north.

Make sure to check out the spur trail up to Deadline Falls on the Tioga segment where salmon migrate between May and September.

Overall, North Umpqua River Trail is the 5th most popular horse trail of all 5 horseback rides in Oregon.
