Near Benezette in Elk County, the Thunder Mountain Equestrian Trail is a 26 mile horseback riding route. There are several road crossings where the trail can be accessed and two loops for shorter trail rides. The trail is blazed in blue horseshoes.
The Thunder Mountain Equestrian Trail begins at the Trail Head along the East Branch of the Hicks Run Road. This is approximately 3.75 miles north of PA Route 555. From DuBois take Rt. 255 east approximately 18.5 miles to Rt. 555, or from St. Marys take Rt. 255 south approximately 12 miles to Rt. 555. Follow Rt. 555 east approximately 18 miles to Hicks Run Rd. The trail head has sufficient room to park horse trailers and unload. This is a day use facility and overnight camping is not permitted.
