Glenwood Horse Trail
The 10th most popular equestrian trail in Virginia.

Northwest of Lynchburg and east of Natural Bridge in the George Washington National Forest, the Glenwood Horse Trail is a long distance trail served by four trailheads.
To reach the Bearwallow Gap (Buchanan) Trailhead from US81, use exit #162. Head north on SR11 through Buchanan. Turn right on SR43 for 1.7 miles. Turn right on SR625 for 0.3 miles to the parking area on the left.
To reach the Hunting Creek Horse Trailhead from Lynchburg, head north on SR501 to Big Island. Turn left on SR122 for 3 miles. Turn right on SR602 for 0.5 miles. Veer left on SR602 for another 3.4 miles to the parking area on the left.
To reach the Hellgate Creek Horse Trailhead from US81, use Exit #175. Head north on SR11 to Natural Bridge. Turn right on SR130 for 3.2 miles. Turn right on SR759 for 0.7 miles. Turn left on SR782 for 1 mile. Turn right on SR815 for 0.3 miles to the parking area on the right.
To reach the Day Creek Horse Trailhead from Roanoke, head east on SR460/221. Turn left on SR697 for 0.6 miles. Turn left on FS186 for 0.4 miles to the parking area on the left.
Overall, Glenwood Horse Trail is the 10th most popular horse trail of all 35 horseback rides in Virginia. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Glenwood Horse Trail including Cumberland Mountain Trail, Shenandoah Mountain Horse Trail System, Allegheny Trail, North Mountain, Signal Knob Loop and Dry Run Trail.
