Dismal River OHV Trail

North of North Platte and southwest of Dunning, the Dismal River Trail is a 11 mile one-way route shared by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback and OHV Users. The loose-sand route runs from the Dismal River Trailhead to the NFS Whitetail Campground. The trail is limited to vehicles 52 wide.

To reach the trailhead from Halsey, head west on SR2 for 1.5 miles. Turn left heading south on SR S86B towards the Scott Lookout Tower. Just bofore the lookout tower, turn left heading south on Circle Road (aka FS203). Continue south for 3 miles to a wide open area on the east side of the road near the junction with FS201.

Note: the Forest Service roads off-limits to OHVs are 203, 212, 259, and 277 and State Spur 86B (the one to Scott Tower). No motorized vehicles are allowed inside the 203 Circle Road from September 1 through November 30.
