Cow Mountain - South For OHV Driving

East of Ukiah, the 60,000 acre South Cow Mountain Recreation Area has 200 miles of OHV routes on roads and trails. The terrain is rugged, consisting mostly of steep, chaparral-covered slopes with scattered stands of fir, pine and oak. Elevations range from 800 to 4,000 feet. The area offers beautiful views of Ukiah and Clear Lake, over 31 miles of stream, 13 wildlife reservoirs, and habitat for blacktail deer, bear, wild turkey, and other upland species.

South Cow Mountain Recreation Area is located in the Mayacmas Mountains between Ukiah and Lakeport, about 2 hours north of San Francisco. To reach the trailhead from Ukiah, head south on US101 to the Talmage Exit. Proceed east on Talmage Road for 1.5 miles. Turn right at East Side Road for less than 0.5 miles to Mill Creek Road. Turn left on Mill Creek Road for 5 miles to the entrace to South Cow Mountain.
