East of Tucson and southeast of Safford, the 2,000 acre Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area has rolling sand dunes open to OHV users. There are low, sparsely vegetated dunes for those preferring a slower paced ride, while several larger dunes provide challenges for the more adventurous riders.

To reach the trailhead from Safford, head east on SR70 for 7 miles. Turn south on Haekel Road for 25 miles in Hot Wells.

Overall, Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area is the 18th most popular OHV & 4wd jeep trail of all 25 OHV routes in Arizona.
