East of Westport and southwest of Denniston, the Denniston Plateau has a vast network of 4WD roads to explore. The arid, scrub bush tracks are well-marked throughout this former open pit coal mining quary land.

To reach the trailhead from Westport, head north on SH67 for 17km into Waimangaroa. Veer right heading northeast on McGill Road for 0.8km. Continue straight on Conns Creek Road for 8.4km into Denniston. Veer right and park on right in small three car parking area (no trailhead facilities).

Overall, Denniston Plateau is the 6th most popular OHV & 4wd jeep trail of all 6 OHV routes in New Zealand.
