Northeast of Queenstown, the Skippers 4WD Road descends into Skippers Canyon through dry bush.

To reach the trailhead from Queenstown, head north on Shotover Street. Turn left on Gorge Road (which becomes Arthur Point Road and then Malaghan Road) for 7km. Turn left heading up Coronet Peak Ski Area road for 4.5km. Turn left up Skippers Road for 0.6km to Skipper Saddle parking area.

The route continues north on the road to explore Skippers Canyon ghost town about another 16km ahead.

Overall, Skippers Canyon is the 4th most popular OHV & 4wd jeep trail of all 6 OHV routes in New Zealand.
