West of Truckee near Soda Springs at Donner Summit, the Royal Gorge Cross-Country Ski Area is one of North America's largest nordic area with 92 groomed trails totalling over 140 km. These cross-country skiing trails are spread over 9,000 acres at elevations above 6,000 feet.
Southwest of South Lake Tahoe at Carson Pass, the Kirkwood Cross Country Center has 80 km of marked and signed cross country ski trails. There are three interconnected systems spread over 4,200 acres located above 8,000 feet. The tracks are through classic high Sierra with big pine forest below massive exposed granite peaks. All the trails are groomed daily.
Between Yosemite and Tahoe in the Sierra Nevadas at 7,000 feet, the Bear Valley Cross Country Center has 38 trails totoalling 65 km of well-groomed cross country ski trails. The nordic trails are spreadover 3,000 acres of meadow and dense forest. The elevations range from 7,000 feet to 7,800 feet, which usually guarentees good snow pack.
Northeast of Tahoe City, the Nordic Center At Squaw Valley has 18km of cross-country ski trails spread across 400 acres. The cross country skiing winds through meadows and hillsides.
Northeast of Truckee near Donner Summit, the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center has over 100km of groomed cross country ski trails in 3 trail systems over 4,800 acres above 6,500 feet. The TDXC trailhead is located at the Alder Creek Adventure Center.
