Located west of Calgary, the Canmore Nordic Center is the primary activity center for exploring the surrounding 1,600 square miles multi-use recreation area. In this alpine area, cross-country skiers can expect to find rolling hills, sculpted peaks, sparkling lakes and bubbling streams, along with moose and mountain goats. Canmore Nordic Center maintains 70 km of cross country skiing tracks with 12 km of snowmaking all above 4,500 feet.

Marie near Goulais River, the Stokely Creek area has 25 trails totalling 135km of well-marked groomed trails over 12,000 acres of wooded pine/birch valleys and frozen lakes on the Algoma Highlands. Many loops can be constructed for a total of 380km of cross country skiing trails. The trails roll through hardwood forests near creeks and waterfalls.
