North of Idaho City in the Boise National Forest, Whoop-Um-Up is located 18 miles north of Idaho City on State Highway 21. Some sections of this 6.6-mile trail are complex, particularly the downhill sections of the creek trail, which are relatively challenging and require advanced skiing skills. Other areas are suitable for beginner to intermediate cross country skiers. A restroom and plowed parking area is shared with snowmobilers. The trails are marked but not groomed.

Overall, Whoop-Um-Up is the 24th most popular cross country ski area of all 43 Nordic ski destinations in Idaho. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Whoop-Um-Up including Banner Ridge and Gold Fork.
