Northeast of Jackson and west of Moran in the Grand Teton National Park, the 10 mile out & back trek up Signal Mountain is a good tour on unplowed roads to escape from the crowds. The route starts from near Signal Mountain Lodge and runs through pine forests. To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Jackson, head north on SR26 to Moran Junction. Turn left into the northern section of GTNP and then left again up towards Signal Mountain Lodge.
Overall, Signal Mountain is the 1st most popular cross country ski area of all 26 Nordic ski destinations in Wyoming. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Signal Mountain including Jackson Ski Touring Foundation, Jenny Lake Loop, Shadow Mountain, Mt. Washington Valley, Jackson Hole Nordic Center and Cache Creek Canyon.
