Northeast of Traverse City near Bellaire, the Shanty Creek cross country ski area has 30 kilometers of hill and dale to skate and glide. The trails are groomed and gorgeous winding through evergreen forests and snow-laden hardwoods straight from a storybook. Stop for a picnic beside a swift-flowing creek or take a sunset sojourn across the orchards. Searching for a break from the stress of the work week? Try the White Pine Stampede race trail with its stretching, bending terrain, ideal for short strides and long glides.

Overall, Shanty Creek is the 28th most popular cross country ski area of all 47 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Shanty Creek including North American Vasa Inc., Muncie Lakes Pathway, Alligator Hill Trail and Lost Lake Pathway.
