East of Ithaca and west of Dryden, the Hammond Hill State Forest has 11 miles of marked cross country ski trails. The white-blazed Finger Lake Trail crosses the forest.

Overall, Hammond Hill State Forest is the 45th most popular cross country ski area of all 61 Nordic ski destinations in New York. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Hammond Hill State Forest including Shindagin Hollow State Forest, Sugar Hill State Forest, Interloken Trail and Danby State Forest.
