Near Ithaca, the Danby State Forest has plenty of cross country skiing trails.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead, take SR96B past Ithaca College to Danby, then turn left onto either Bald Hill Road, Michigan Hollow Road, or South Danby Road. The Finger Lakes Trail passes through this area.

Overall, Danby State Forest is the 43rd most popular cross country ski area of all 61 Nordic ski destinations in New York. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Danby State Forest including Shindagin Hollow State Forest, Sugar Hill State Forest, Interloken Trail and Hammond Hill State Forest.
