Southwest of Grand Marais in the Superior National Forest, the Cascade Lodge maintains 50km of groomed cross country ski trails that connect with the North Shore Mountains Ski Trail System. The trails provide great views of Lake Superior, Cascade River and wind through miles of birch, aspen and pine bordering Cascade River State Park.

Cascade Lodge is just 100 miles from Duluth on Highway 61, about five hours from the Twin Cities. It is four lane freeway all the way to Two Harbors and from there one follows what is considered by many to be one of the most scenic drives in the country. Cascade Lodge is about 9 miles north of the Lutsen Ski Area & Superior National Golf Course and about 9 miles south of Grand Marais.

Overall, Cascade Lodge is the 1st most popular cross country ski area of all 39 Nordic ski destinations in Minnesota. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Cascade Lodge including Lutsen Mountains, Gunflint Trail System, Golden Eagle Lodge, Bearskin Lodge, Cascade River State Park and Pincushion Mountain B and B.
