Southwest of Grand Marais in the Superior National Forest, the Cascade River State Park has 17 miles of cross-country ski trails which connect up with the popular North Shore Mountains Ski Trail System. The park is adjacent to Cascade Lodge and its 50km of trails (trail pass required).

The park is located 10 miles southwest of Grand Marais, and approximately 265 miles from the Twin Cities. The office is located just off State Highway 61 at mile post 101.

Overall, Cascade River State Park is the 25th most popular cross country ski area of all 39 Nordic ski destinations in Minnesota. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Cascade River State Park including Cascade Lodge, Lutsen Mountains, Gunflint Trail System, Golden Eagle Lodge, Bearskin Lodge and Pincushion Mountain B and B.
