In the Polebridge area along the North Fork of the Flathead River, there are several ungroomed cross country skiing options starting from the Polebridge Ranger Station. First, there is the easy 4 mile round trip trek north up Park Road 7 to Big Praire overlooking the North Fork. Second, there is the 6 mile round trip trek south down Park Road 7 to Lone Pine Praire through the 1988 burn. Finally, there is the challenging 12 mile round trip trek northeast to Bowman Lake.

Overall, North Fork Flathead - Polebridge is the 25th most popular cross country ski area of all 37 Nordic ski destinations in Montana.
