In the Marias Pass Summit area, the Autumn Creek Trail is a popular 6 mile trek on ungroomed cross country ski trails. The orange blazed route starts from the pass on US 2 and heads north across the railroad tracks. Turn left at the first trail junction. The trail passes below Elk Mountain with spectacular vistas. At Autumn Creek, the trail follows the western side of the creek and there are some steep hills which may be icy. The route ends back at US 2 near mile mark 194.

Overall, Marias Pass - Autumn Creek is the 20th most popular cross country ski area of all 37 Nordic ski destinations in Montana.
