Hungerford Trail Cross Country Skiing

North of Grand Rapids and west of Big Rapids in Newyago County, the Hungerford Lake Recreation Area has a gently rolling 13 mile loop through big oak forest known as the Hungerford Trail.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Big Rapids, head west on SR20 for 8.5 miles. At Norwich Town Hall, turn north on Cypress Avenue for 0.5 miles. At the cemetary, turn east on Hungerford Lake Road for 0.5 miles. Turn north on FS5134 for 0.25 miles to the trailhead parking area.

Note: water may not be available at this recreation area.

Overall, Hungerford Trail is the 22nd most popular cross country ski area of all 47 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan.
