Near Ironwood, there are two cross country ski loops south of Big Powderhorn Mountain Ski Area. The Wolverine Loop is an easy to moderate 5 km loop, while the Powderhorn Loop is a moderate to difficult 7 km loop.

To reach the trailhead from Ironwood, head east on US 2 just past Section 12 Road. The parking is on the left (north) side of the road before reaching Powderhorn Road. Also, access is available from the Ski Area (Big Powderhorn Mountain is located between Ironwood and Bessemer, 2 miles north off US2. Look for the Big Skier).

Overall, Powderhorn Trails is the 30th most popular cross country ski area of all 47 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Powderhorn Trails including ABR Trails and Mt. Zion Ski Area.
