East of Gunnision near Ohio City, the Quartz Creek System consists of three cross country ski trails.

The Waunita Pass Ski Trails (12.4km) follow abandoned logging roads. The pass is 6km from the trailhead. The Waunita Hot Springs are another 10km beyond.

To reach Pitkin from Gunnison, head east on US50 to Parlin. Turn left heading north on CR76 through Ohio City and onto Pitkin. In Pitkin, turn right heading south on FS763 for 1.3km to the trailhead.

Overall, Waunita is the 41st most popular cross country ski area of all 58 Nordic ski destinations in Colorado. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Waunita including Hartman Rocks Recreation Area, Pitkin, Mill Creek Nordic Ski Trails and Creek.
