East of Cedar City and west of Bryce, the Red Canyon area is a scenic red rock canyon with ponderosa pine and sage forests laced with a nice trail network.

In the winter, the multi-purpose paved Red Canyon Scenic Trail is very popular with cross-country skiers. It runs parallel to SR12 throughout the canyon.

To reach the trailhead from Cedar City, head east on SR14. It dead ends at US89. Turn left heading north on US89. At SR12, turn right heading east for about 3 miles into Red Canyon. The trailhead parking is on the left (north side of the road).

To reach the trailhead from Bryce, head west on SR12 into Red Canyon.

Overall, Red Canyon Scenic Trail is the 13th most popular cross country ski area of all 17 Nordic ski destinations in Utah. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Red Canyon Scenic Trail including Bryce Canyon National Park, Fairyland Loop, Rim Trail, Old Bryce Town Ski Loop, Daves Hallow Trail and Paria Ski Loop.
