South of Taos and northwest of Holman, the Agua Piedra Campground is a great base for exploring 13 miles of cross country skiing trails ranging from 8,400 feet to 11,400. The Cordova Trail (#17) heads southwest from the campground near the group picnic area. It will take you to the junction of Comales Trail (#22), about six miles from the trailhead. Turning west on #22 will take you to Bear Mountain, while turning east will lead to the Agua Piedra Trail (#19) which will lead back to the campground.

To reach the Agua Piedra Campground from Taos, head south on SR68 to SR75. Turn left heading east on SR75 for about 22 miles. The campground is on the right. There are two trailheads from at this campground. Use the second trailhead further up the road near the corral.

Overall, Cordova Trail is the 9th most popular cross country ski area of all 12 Nordic ski destinations in New Mexico. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Cordova Trail including Angel Fire Resort, Ski Rio, Alamitos Trail, Maquinita Canyon Trail and Agua Piedra Trail.
