Southeast of Syracuse and northeast of Norwich, the 1,000 acre Whaupaunaucau State Forest has a nice trail network open to cross country skiing. This is a rolling forested trail network.

The trailhead is located 6 miles southwest of New Berlin on CR29, or 6 miles northeast of Norwich on CR320 (which turns into CR29).

Overall, Whaupaunaucau State Forest is the 34th most popular cross country ski area of all 61 Nordic ski destinations in New York.
