East of Wilmington near Hammonton, the 110,000 acre Wharton State Forest has over 500+ miles of cross country skiing trails and logging roads. The trails pass through pine forests with white sandy areas and several river crossings.

Overall, Wharton State Forest is the 11th most popular cross country ski area of all 14 Nordic ski destinations in New Jersey.
