Southeast of Buffalo and northeast of Portageville in Wyoming County, the Letchworth State Park has 70 miles of trails with various uses including hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, horseback and snowmobile riding. The trails pass through lush forest along the Genessee River gorge and pass three major waterfalls. A 21.5 mile section of the Finger Lakes Trail passes through the park as well.

Overall, Gorge Trail is the 39th most popular cross country ski area of all 61 Nordic ski destinations in New York. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Gorge Trail including Bond Lake Park and Byrncliff Resort.
