East of Pulaski and Orwell in Oswego County, the Chateaugay State Forest has a 7 mile ungroomed trail network, plus 8 miles of unplowed roads.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from US81, use the Pulaski Exit. Head east on SR2 (Pulaski-Redfield Road) through Richland and Orwell. Turn left heading north on Beecherville Road. Park here.

Overall, Chateaugay State Forest is the 16th most popular cross country ski area of all 60 Nordic ski destinations in New York. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Chateaugay State Forest including Rodman - Barnes Corner Ski Trail, Salmon Hills Outdoor Adventure Center, Highland Forest County Park, Brookfield Trail System, Whaupaunaucau State Forest and Stoney Pond Nordic Ski Trail.
