Southwest of Alpine, the Hannagan Meadow Loop is a nice 6 mile nordic ski trail with 400 feet of elevation change. It is ideal for encountering wildlife along meadows above 9,000 feet. The groomed routes pass through tall-treed forests and groves of aspen.
The cross country ski trailhead is located 23 miles south of Alpine on US191 at FS576 just before Hannagan Meadows.
Overall, Hannagan Meadow Loop is the 8th most popular cross country ski area of all 11 Nordic ski destinations in Arizona. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Hannagan Meadow Loop including Williams Valley Loop and Ackre Lake Trail.
