East of Running Springs in the San Bernardino Mountains, the Rim Nordic Ski Area has 20 km of groomed trails above 6775 feet.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Running Springs, head east on SR18 for 5 miles. It is across from Snow Valley Mountain Sports Park on the way to Big Bear Lake. Only 1 1/2 hours from L.A. and Orange County and 2 1/2 hours from San Diego.

Overall, Rim Nordic Ski Area is the 34th most popular cross country ski area of all 38 Nordic ski destinations in California. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Rim Nordic Ski Area including Green Valley Nordic and Palm Springs Aerial Tramway-XC.
