Kal-Haven Trail Cross Country Skiing

Near Kalamazoo in Van Buren County, the Kal-Haven Trail is a 33.5 mile long linear multi-use trail that links Kalamazoo a major southwest Michigan city to South Haven a Lake Michigan resort area. The trail starts in South Haven on North Bailey Avenue and ends in Kalamazoo on 10th Street. The trail meanders through wooded areas, past farm lands and over rivers and streams. Trail highlights include a camelback bridge and covered bridge.

To reach the eastern terminus near Kalamazoo from US-131, take exit #33B (M-43 W) to 10th St. Turn Right (North) on 10th St. past H Ave. to the trailhead on the left side of the road.

To reach the western terminus near South Haven from the Blue Star Memorial Hwy (A2) Exit Wells St. and head west. Turn Right (North) on Bailey St. to the trailhead parking lot.

Note: A fee-based trail pass is required to use this trail.

The route of the Kal-Haven originally was a railroad competed in 1870, the railroad bed has been converted to a trail with a limestone/slag surface. It is usable for all non-motorized bicycles, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling when there is a 4-inch snow base.
