Oro-Medonte Rail Trail Cross Country Skiing

Near Orillia in Lake County, the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail is a 28 km cross country ski trail follows an abandoned rail line that runs along the west shore of Lake Simcoe. The Railtrail runs from Woodland Drive at the City of Orillia border to Penetanguishene Road at the City of Barrie border. Towns along the trail include Shanty Bay, Oro Station,Hawkestone, and Barrie, offering great spots to stop for lunch. The trail takes skiers through hardwood forests, farmlands, and wetlands and is relatively flat and well marked at each intersections.

To reach the southern terminus trailhead, take Shanty Bay Rd. to Line 1 North, follow to parking lot. To reach the northern terminus, take Hwy 11 to Forest Home and go south on Line 15 to parking lot.

Overall, Oro-Medonte Rail Trail is the 46th most popular cross country ski area of all 48 Nordic ski destinations in Ontario.
