In Guysborough County, the 7km Lookoff Trail (aka Twin Lakes Road) is open to hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding, horseback riding and cross country skiing. The Lookoff Trail is a 7 km route along a deteriorated single lane gravel road. As you climb to the top, the trail is bordered by alder and lure bushes. The trail transverses a bog, pine and spruce stands and eventually ends in the barrens. At the top, you will find a view of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding area. There is good opportunity for rock hounding and photography. It is recommended that the best time to be on the trail is autumn as the changing leaves provide a colourful background.
The nearest facilities are at Tor Bay Provincial Park which is equipped with pit toilets and water. There is nothing along the trail. The lake water must be filtered and purified before drinking. Anything else needed can be found in nearby Larrys River. An experienced treker with map and compass can join up at the end with Bull Hill Road, about 1 km away. Within the next 5 years, the Guysborough County Trails Association wants to connect
these two trails.
Directions to traihead: 5 km from Larrys River on the left heading towards Lundy. The trail is not the road with the orange gate. If you see this youve gone too far and the trail is the first road just before the orange gate.
