Northeast of Traverse City and southwest of Glen Arbor in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the Alligator Hill Trail is a network of looping trails totaling 9 miles. This rolling terrain passes through maple/beech forest and pine plantations. The trails are shared by hikers and horseback riders in the summer, and used by nordic skiers in the winter.
To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Glen Arbor, head west on SR22. At the junction with SR109 where SR22 turns left heading south, continue straight heading west on SR109. Turn left heading south on Stocking Road. Look for trailhead parking on left side of road.
Overall, Alligator Hill Trail is the 47th most popular cross country ski area of all 47 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Alligator Hill Trail including North American Vasa Inc., Shanty Creek, Muncie Lakes Pathway and Lost Lake Pathway.
