Southwest of Salzburg, the Zell Am See area has 40km of cross country ski track. The Lake Zell and the forested mountains make this an ideallic setting. There are 40km of trails in the Zell Am See - Kaprun region with 16km in Zell Am See and 14.6km in Kaprun.
A network of well-developed routes stretches from Zell Am See and Kaprun to the upper part of Pinzgau. For dynamic skiers, only the sky is the limit on the way to Högmoos or Mittersill. The five-kilometre west trail, which starts in Kaprun, is extremely well-suited for beginners in this energy-sapping, stamina-demanding sport. The high-altitude course on the Kitzsteinhorn plateau, on the other hand, is suitable for more experienced sportsmen and women: this trail is open all year round - 365 days of sporting pleasure in unique natural scenery. And you do not even have to stop at dusk since there is a five-kilometre night trail at your disposal.
To reach this area from Salzburg, follow Route 215 west through Germany. Near Lofer, head south on Route 311 to Zell Am See.
Overall, Zell Am See is the 3rd most popular cross country ski area of all 16 Nordic ski destinations in Austria.
