East of Lake Louise, there are two nice cross country ski trail systems under the slopes of Ski Lake Louise, albiet rarely groomed. The Pipestone Loops are a trail networked accessed off the TransCanada Highway about 0.7 km north of the main Lake Louise exit. This network has an outer loop of 12.6 km, but make sure to carry a map since the many intersections can be confusing (and don’t ski on any of the lakes). The Whitehorn Loop is accessed from the northeast end of Parking Lot 4 at Ski Lake Louise (unsigned). These trails are intermittently groomed and the max loop is 6.4 km.

Overall, Pipestone / Whitehorn Loops is the 18th most popular cross country ski area of all 37 Nordic ski destinations in Alberta. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Pipestone / Whitehorn Loops including Fairview Loop, Skoki Trails, Telemark Loop, Cascade Trail, Shadow Lake Trails and Sundance Canyon Trail.
