Southwest of Banff and north east of Radium, there are two tracks at Kootenay Crossing. The flat Dolly Varden Trail runs 10 km to Crooks Meadow. The closed West Kootenay Fire Road follows the Kootenay River upstream for 13 km. To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Radium, head east on Hwy 93 for 44 km.

Overall, Kootenay Crossing Ski Trail is the 14th most popular cross country ski area of all 56 Nordic ski destinations in British Columbia. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Kootenay Crossing Ski Trail including Nipika Touring Center and Simpson River Ski Trail.
